What is the difference between major and minor versions?

There are two different types of versions for FireStart models: major and minor. A major version will be forced when you make a significant change to a model, and a minor version will be suggested when you make a smaller change to a model.

If FireStart determines you need a new major version, you cannot override and must create a new major version. However, if FireStart suggests you save a new minor version you are able to create a major version instead.

Once a process model has an execution, it turns into read-only and any changes will force a new version. Whether the forced version is major or minor depends on what was changed.

Major versions are created by incrementing the number on the left side of the comma (1.00, 2.00, etc.), minor versions by incrementing the number on the right side of the comma (1.01, 1.02, etc.).

You can create a new version yourself at any time:

  1. Open the Save As dialog from the Main tab
  2. Check the checkbox Save as a new version and choose whether you want to have a new minor or major version.
  3. Click Save and the new version will be created.
